    Display Adapter

    Locked

    by dave.raj ·

Hi, I have installed Win98 second edition on a pc, but the display adapter that it picks up is a standard VGA card, only giving me options to pick 16 bit colour. Now I opened up the machine and the display adapter is a S3 Trio 3D, now how come the drivers doesn,t pick up this adapter. I have picked the driver from the list as well, but it still wont detect the adapter and I can’t make any changes to the display. Now I have to change the settings because I can’t open a CAD software with the current display settings. Thankyou

You will need to get new drivers for your card. Try driversguide.com Use “drivers” as user name and “all” as password. At bottom of page go to drivers search. Use the S3 Trio 3D in your search for the video driver. There are manufactures drivers as well as many 3rd party drivers available.

Sounds like you need to download drivers.

I presume the card worked fine in another PC?

Then this card is not supported by windows 98. Visit http://www.diamondmm.co.uk and click on the S3 section. You can also http://www.s3.com but thsi site cant be displayed at the moment. Just checked the diamond site but having problems there to.

Keep trying these two sites and you will get the drivers you require.

Depending on the number of times that you have installed the S3 you will have placed the same number of adapters in Device Manager. The first thing you will need to do is is to start in safe mode and delete the adapters that you may find in Device Manager. You will have downloaded the “latest” drivers from one of the well know sites. Place them in a file on the desktop and when you re-boot window will ask for the drivers. Browse to them and double click on the setup/install file the rest should be plain sailing. Set your monitor correctly picking it from the list of monitors otherwise you will not get the best from the new drivers. Dump S3 though get a GEOFORCE or ATI or MATROX card, better etcdrivers
