DISPLAY GOES BLANK

By aliasnikhil ·
2 weeks before I added a dynet ddr1, 1gb, 333mhz, 2.5v ram to the existing 256mb
i installed the new ram and the computer just ran fine
but a week after the problem started:-
1) sometimes display just goes blank especially when I start or play counter strike
2) once the cpu started making noise with the green power light blinking rapidly just like when ram is not inserted
3) sometimes a blue screen popped up saying that a new device is not funtioning
4) cpu restarts on its own
i tried using only one ram at a time in different slots but problems persist

usually the computer just runs fine but sometimes it does the above mentioned things
i have P4 2.44Ghz with graphics accelerator
845 gv motherboard.
the worry is that now even the old ram gives the same problem
so is it an issue with my motherboard have i damaged it(although i handled it with great care) or some software problem

any insight is appreciated
please help i am desperate
thanks a lot in advance

On the assumption that you're running Windows XP ...

When you fitted the 1GB RAM did you go into your BIOS to 'let it see it', then save the changes on exit?

Have you altered your Pagefile to take account of the increased RAM? Windows XP will not alter the Pagefile on its own - you have to do it.

With 1.25GB RAM (1280MB) your Pagefile should be set to at least 1920MB (1.875GB).

You will HAVE TO have this amount of contiguous (unbroken) free space available on your hard drive, for it to function properly.

You are confusing me now ...

If you have a Pagefile of 4523MB, that is what you would set if your RAM totalled almost 3GB.

If you have only just added 1GB to the existing 256MB, how did you end up with 4.4GB of Pagefile?

Ahem !! - THIS is where I walk away ...

Because you have adopted the standard pose of the Numpty that refuses to answer questions intended to bring about a happy conclusion.

Until another peer with better patience strolls this way, you're on your own.

What does THAT have to do with it? You appear to have the answers, you figure it out.
