Display Properties Windows2000.

By hdumas ·
We have a problem with employees changing the display properties on thier displays. Many of these changes consist of fluorescent color combinations that make it all, but impossible to work with those stations. this is a mill setting. the problem hasbecome large enough that it takes up a lot of our time changing these screens back to thier original settings. we have already had to take away the games. there must also be a way to take away a users ability to access the display properties unless they have admins rights. any suggestions?

I not at a DC, so I'm relying on memory (bad thing)so some of the steps may be wrong. Group policy (GPO's)control the desktop. Applying it differs depending on your network. Are you running AD?. If yes, logon as Administrator, go to Start | Administrative Programs |Active Directory Computers. Find the container (Domain or OU) that has the problem computers. Open Group Policy |Users |Administrative Templates. Make the changes and apply them to the container.

A second solution is to make a new user profile and than make it manatory for all the offending users. They can change to desktop setting for their seesion, but on restart the correct settings apply.

The less complicated way:
Delete the desktop.cpl file in the windows\system folder. It will dis-allowing users going to the desktop properties screen.
