Dissapearing Hard Drive

By support ·
I have W2K Server installed, with SP2.
My hard drive is 18G, but from one day to the other it changed. It is now displayed as a 4GB drive.

Is there a way to "recover" the "lost" space besides reinstalling?

Have you checked 'disk management' to see weather there are any restrictions placed on the hard drive such as quotas, errors, etc. You may want to scan the disks for errors.

Maybe rescan the disks and possibly extend the volume if it has been setincorrectly.

If you still have a problem you can mirror the drives and replace the old hard drive with a new one (this is a little involved so some research would be advisable).

Hope that helps

My first thought would be that someone was playing a joke on you and imaged your 18GB drive onto a 4GB drive and took the 18GB home.
Seriously, though...
Are you running a hardware RAID?
If you go into your RAID controller's management, how much space does it see?
Are all the drives listed?
What does Disk Management see? Does it show just the 4GB partition, or does it show the 4GB partition with a 14GB unpartitioned space after it?
Is the partition healthy?

If the space is there, you could use Partition Magic to combine your partitions.

Good Luck,
JR
