Distribution Group not receiving external email?

I’ve got a Distribution Group set up in Exchange 2007 that works fine from inside the organization, but when I try to send mail to the group from an external email account it does not go through. I have already unchecked “Require that all senders are authenticated” in Delivery Restrictions. We have an edge server and hub transport server in an EBS 2007 setup.
We have an external spam filter that has a message delivery log – when I check this log I see that all emails sent to this address bounced – with an “550 5.1.1 User unknown” error.
I’ve set up a distribution group to accept mail from external senders before, and unchecking “Require that all senders are authenticated” was all that was required then. Could something else be amiss? What am I missing? Any ideas?
