Bad choice all around

by NickNielsen In reply to What about exe?

I got to spend my afternoon fighting a "virus shield" (trojan dropper) infection on my son's laptop, most of that waiting for it to boot into safe mode (took almost a half-hour).

Once I got there, it didn't take long to find and eliminate it. CCleaner to find the startup entry and get the file name, then delete the executable and clean the registry.

Rebooted back into normal mode with no problems. Removed the crust: unused apps, unneeded apps, and other garbage. Updated the AV and anti-malware, installed NoScript and AdBlock Plus for his Firefox. Gave him a list of other as a recommendation.

Good thing

You didn't charge him real money for that.

Hmmm. Maybe not so good a thing.

Occurs that I'm shooting my mouth off. Maybe you signed him into a contract for his soul hereverafter.
