DNS

By Tora ·
I have a client who is running a NT4 sp6a box with MS DNS running with Winproxy 3.0 firewall as well as Mdaemon 4 for emails. DNS has been correctly setup with the primary updating the slave accordingly. However clients behind the firewall can only receive and not send emails. I believe that DNS & tcp/ip could be corrupted. Any ideas?

What email package are you using?
Can users ping external sites?
Do you get an error message or bounced email? What does it report?

Has the firewall been configured to allow the mail to pass through?

Using mdaemon you can try ther imap services and check if yu can access the server.. and in Mdaemon have you checked if the range of ip your clients are using are in the allow relay list ?

how are the clients addressing configured ?

First, is their email server behind the firewall? If it is, you'll need to configure a rule on the firewall to allow SMTP from the mailserver out through the external interface of the firewall.

I believe that you're running all these services onthe same machine, is that correct?
