Hi, I had set up a network with two windows 2003 servers. One server was the domain controller, with active directory, dns and dhcp. the other server was to have firewall installed, internet (shared with rest of network) and provide vpn connection via ISA 2004. Everything worked fine until the HDD died on the ISA machine.
I reinstalled it exactly the same as before, set up the nics with same ip addresses as before. I added it to the domain controller, I can browse the other machines on the network, the firewall is all set up, everyone can browse the internet happily. I thought everything was working until I tried to set up the vpn. during the setup you are asked to select the location that the vpn clients would connect to i.e the domain but I realized that I could not browse to the domain from within isa. I found this strange so just to test i tried to turn on remote desktop on this server and then tried to give a specific user from the domain access but the only location i could see was the ISA server, not the domain.
I tried to register the server in active directory as a ras server using netsh.exe but I got the message “The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted”
My question is could this be because even though I am seeing entries in the DNS on the domain controller for this Server, those entries are for the previous configuration before the server crashed and not the new one? Would deleting the entries in the DNS and recreating them solve this problem?
