Deploying W2K,installing win2k machines from standard images, placing these machines on the production network when they fire up. The problem is that DNS is registering 2 different hostnames for the same IP. One for the machine name via the image installed, then when they switch names, it updates dns with the new name, but leaves the old entry. how can I eliminate conficting PTR records ? why doent DNS release the old PTR record.
