While specifics vary with the DNS server you're using, generally speaking the DNS database needs an 'A' (HOST) record for each machine on the LAN, including the web server. An 'A' record will resolve an address for each pc name in the form For the machine hosting the IIS webserver, add a 'CNAME' (CANONICAL NAME or ALIAS) record which connects the alias '' to a physical host name ''. These should be created in a Zone that services your LAN, and this zone should be set to listen for DNS requests only on the internal LAN interface, if the DNS machine has more than one interface.
