DNS on Win2k - Search and Replace?

By darren.stradins ·
I am running Win2k DNS to host our internet names. I have 400+ zones, many of them defensive, but all contain a A record 'www' to resolve to our company webpage.

Every now and again, I have the need to do a global search and replace throughout all 400+ zones for certain IP addresses (since some of our websites are hosted externally)

Eg. All occurances of 10.1.1.56 to be replaced with 10.2.2.33

I have got by with VBScripts to do this up to now, but it is a messy process... and eventual admin of DNS will be handed over to another support team in the coming months...

Has anyone come across a tool that simplifies the administration of DNS on Win2k and provides global search and replace functions that I am after?

DNS on Win2k - Search and Replace?

Why not just assign an alias that points to the DNS name of the external host? That way, if they change the IP address, it does not affect you.
