DNS problem?

By r_p_mann ·
Hello! This past weekend I just upgraded my NT4 PDC to W2K and Active Directory and DNS server of course. I'm in the process of putting the ip address of the new dns server in the network properties of client computers. On my own workstation, when I put the new number in as preferred, I can successfully access the Active Directory tools, but I can't get to our webpage which is the ip of the alternate dns number. If I switch them, the webpage comes up fine but then the AD tools don't work. I have a feeling that the answer lies in the new DNS server I installed. How can I get both to work? Thanks in advance!

DNS problem?

by TimTheToolMan In reply to DNS problem?

Hi,

How do you mean cant get to your webpage? Unless I've misunderstood what you mean, it sounds like your DNS should simply include an entry for your webpage eg....

mywebpage.com 192.168.0.2

and your DNS server might be...

DNSSERVER 192.168.0.1

Which is the address you put in your network configuration. DNS will then resolve the address if you use

http://mywebpage.com

but you may need to configure your browsers to treat the mywebpage.com address as a local LAN address.

Cheers,
Tim.
