Ok here is a background I am a cable modem tech for local cable company. I deal with win9x all day. Here is the problem that I am 3 other techs can’t resolve. Sometimes after installing a NIC in a win9x machine i can get a DHCP address or set it static, can ping the dns servers, the gateway any numeric IP address but NO host names such as www.yahoo.com…. so in result it seems the machine is online but isn’t. I have tried everthing i can think of reninstalled network stack, reinstalled winsock.dll, wsock32.dll i am completely lost the only resolution i can find is FORMAT and reload PLEASE help me.. if I had more points to offer I would… PLEase help. for example
ping 24.0.126.33
reply from 24.0.126.33: bytes=32 … < dns servers
ping www.yahoo.com
unkown host
