DNS running windows nt4.0

By kashmeir63 ·
Hi,
I have a windows nt4.0 environment.I do have a dns server. I've noticed lately that resolving by name is taking longer and longer, where as resolving by ip address is much quicker the way it should be. Has anybody run into this problem? Anyhelp would be appreciated

Could be an issue with domain suffix or WINS. When you open a cmd prompt and try to ping a name in question by name alone, does it reply? If the ping responds with the fqdn, but is slow to start, try moving the dns suffix further up in your list.If the ping responds with the name only, then it is resolving through WINS. If by name alone doesn't, does pinging fqdn work? Need some more info to help you out. Answer some of the questions I posed and we'll see what we can do.

Is this your only DNS server ? if not it could be that your clients are trying to resolve with the first server and for some reason it is not responding so they are trying the next in line ?
