DNS Server

By blazinride ·
i have two DNS servers, both AD integrated in my single domain, one is a file server, and secondary dns server, domain controller and is called server A. The second server is a domain controller, DHCP server, primary DNS server, and is named Server B. I have the DHCP scope set up for server b is the primary DNS, and server A is the secondary. I recently took Server B offline for maintenance, under the impression that the clients would be able to resolve DNS names using the secondary server (both servers have forwarders set up), but sure enough, all the clients were getting page cannot be displayed. Any suggestions

How are your workstations getting an IP address?

by faradhi In reply to DNS Server

You state server B is your DHCP server. If you take it offline clients are not obtaining a network address.

Also, this issue should be posted under Tech Q&A.

Well Server B is a dhcp client, but i was taking it offline for less than five minutes, so essentially the clients DHCP leases wouldnt have had a chance to expire. Thats why the DHCP server wasnt a big concern.

I am having the same problem. Do you ever find a resolution to your DNS not resolving when your Primary was down?
