    DNS Server and Lame Delegation

    Locked

    by bradlekg ·

Recently I setup DNS on my practice server at my house. Followed the steps provided in the CNE study guide book to the letter but everytime after my first login to test the DNS function my server returns the following error

Lame delegation found at DNS_BRAD-SERV1.BRAD.COM in zone BRAD.HOUSE.BRAD.COM

So I went to the novell site’s knowledge base and it said I need to setup an A Resource. I have tried this many times but still get error.

So my question is. Does anybody have good instructions out there that explains how to setup DNS so not to get this error or is this something that is suppose to happen.

      DNS Server and Lame Delegation

      look at tid 10022558

      Symptom: NW5 DNS-Lame Delegation

Cause: When the NetWare 5 DNS server loads it attempts to resolve the NS (name server) records in each of the configured zones. It looks for an “A” record that has the NS record name and an IP address of the actual DNS server. If the DNS server cannot resolve the NS record name it will display a message stating there is Lame delegation found in some name server record in some zone. The message tells you what record and zone the problem is with.

Fix: Create an “A” record for the NS record and this message will not appear anymore. This is why when creating a zone object you get a message telling you not to forget to create a corresponding “A” record for this zones name server.
