dnsapi error 11151

By wdlists ·
Randomly we get a warning message in the system event log that says dnsapi error 11151. The effect is that dns is not happening. Rebooting enough times fixes it but it appears to be totally random.

It happens on two new machines, Systemax, both running factory installed Win 2k pro. I have installed service pack 1.

What is really happening and how do I make the problem go away?

if you are on a DHCP network Win2K will try to dynamically update your DNS server. This error might very well be the result of the DNS server not permitting these updates.

This can be disabled by unselecting 'register host with DNS' in the advanced TCP/IP settings.

hope this helps,

Tobias
