Do I have a graphics card problem?

By newtfan ·
Sometimes, while scrolling to read my email in OE, blank white boxes appear on the top of my screen covering up the toolbar icons and more. If I pull the scrollbar too quickly the text appears to melt and look garbled. These things also happen when I am using my browser. Is this a graphics card problem or maybe a display adapter problem? I have Win98, 256 MB ram, system resources free 92%, no problems in Device Manager.

I would first try re-installing IE, or upgrading to a newer version if you are using 5.0 or earlier.

If you don't see the problem with any files other than html content, then it likely is not a graphics problem.

It is very possible that one ormore of your IE files is corrupted, and needs to be replaced.

Sometimes, the only fix for these "IE" problems is to uninstall, and re-install IE.

It sounds more like corrupt files with IE browser
Open the Control Panel,double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon,in the panel, select IE,then click on Remove button, when the pop-up windows appears choose the option to FIX IE,reboot

In case thisdoes not solve the problem,go back and Restore to previous and then upgrade IE version

Thanks, I did the FIX IE step but the problem remains. I already have IE version 6.0.2600 with all the updates, so my version isn't old. Your answer was succinct and I appreciate not having to think about how to reinstall/fix IE 'cuz I never had to do it before and didn't realize how simple that was.

Second Un-install the video card and its drivers and reinstall the card with the latest drivers.

Try to update the drivers for your graphics card. Could be some kind of corruption in the drivers for the graphics card.

I always say this but virus can cause funny things to happen. Have you scaned your system? And try running scandisk and defrag. The reason I say virus is that a computer I had two weeks ago did this and had two virus on it. And another that had numbers and letters poping up all over had a bad spot on the hard drive.
