Do you think Microsoft

By zlitocook ·
Is pricing itself into extinction? I read a few news articles about the dropping prices of pcs and how MS keeps increasing the cost of their O/S. As pcs get below $500 it will cost more to install Windows and other of their products then its worth. I here more and more about using BSD, Linux and other less costly O/S. What do you think?

less costly O/S

We, the outside recipients of Microsoft offerings, can't really judge what is going on with Microsoft until the Judicial system finishes with them. They were in the right place at the right time and convinced millions that their OS was the one to buy. In the next year or two, they will be coming out with two more versions of an OS, based on who-knows-what. Paying all those engineers to write millions of lines of code 18 to 20 hours a day, plus marketing and legal fees, has to come from somewhere, namely, us. As long as they are successful selling software to the most consumption-oriented nation in the history of mankind (America) they can charge anything they want. However, since no physicist, past or present, has been able to tell anyone what's going to happen in the next 2 seconds, to say nothing of 5 years from now, we will just have the play the infinite game of wait-and-see. The End.
