Documentation Template/Standard

By kipervarg ·

Does anyone know if any the IT standards organizations publish documentation templates? We are going through an effort to generate documentation (sys configuration, support info, etc) for all of our computer systems.

We have a good idea of what we wish to document, but it would be helpful to see what standards orgnizations recommend.

thanks kindly, Sasha

Sorry there are not any here apart from the Legal Fraternity but you could look on your Countries Standards Web Site to see if they have an established Standard for Templates.

It may even pay to have a bit of a dig around different Country Government Web Sites to see if anything crops up. Not even MS has a Set Template for installed Software this is about the closest thing that they have

And it's not really what you want.

I would suggest that if you can't find a standard template you make your own and keep using it after all this is pretty basic stuff really and doesn't require any amount of Rocket Science to make up.

You can check with the PMI (project management institute) or look up any of the software development methodologies. These generally have templates that you can use. However, as Col pointed out, you will want to check with your country of origin also. Just to make sure you are compliant.

Here are some world wide organizations:

You could also check the TR download area. There may be something you can use as a building block for what you want.
