Documenting Systems

by optimistic maverick . Updated 20 years, 2 months ago

Hello,

I work as an analyst in a software firm. We have foreign clients and the chairman of one of our main clients (we do 90 % of software development for them), has been cracking the whip. He has noticed that the systems that we create for them are not at all properly documented, especially with respect to business specification documentation. Further more, he is adamant that we us a CASE tool to model the systems. He wants us to create a functional hierarchy, ERD models, CRUD matrix, process models. These would be self contained models, in that, the documentation would be incorporated into those models and then generated through the CASE tool.

This was his wish list when he came to pay us a visit on the 15th of April. He says he’s going to come back in Mid of May to see how things are working around.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed with this truly mamoth task?

I need tips on creating functions hierarchy. To be more specific, I need to create a functions hierachy of an electronic points of sale system that we are developing for our clients, and then move on to process models and the rest of the documentation.

Your suggestions and comments are welcome.

Regards.
