Does a systemboard really make a difference?

By eM DuBYaH ·
when building a system, i spend between $50-$100 for a systemboard. obviously i don't build any i7 systems because the price by default is well above that range. so for Core2 or Athlon II/64 ,Phenom, PhenomII for instance, is it worthwhile to spend any more than $100 for a motherboard?

Many considerations

Besides the actual physical size of the board, options such as front side buss speeds, number of PCI-E slots, memory slots and the base frequency along with multipliers have to be part of the overall selection. Future upgrades should also be looked into so that it's usefulness can be ongoing.
