An article featured in TechRepublic?s news reports that the Bush administration is preparing to repeal rules set forth by the Clinton administration that require employers to protect workers against injury caused by repetitive motion.
The rules, put in place four days before Bush took office, could require employers to adjust work stations and to pay for some health care and medical leave if an employee suffers from repetitive stress injuries caused by work. Under the rules, employers must comply by October.
The ergonomic guidelines would undoubtedly have provided IT professionals with some standardized protection. But, alas, this seems to be a case of two steps forward, one step back.
What does this say about the current administration?s attitude toward IT workers? What does it mean for the future? Will this intensify the effort to create a union for IT workers?
