We have a server that performs consistently at about 75% RAM usage on 8 GB of RAM. My boss tried to tell me it would perform better with 24 GB (even though it never gets above 75% RAM usage), because the percentage of usage would be lower. He used the analogy that if a car engine is running at 75%, it gets much worse performance. I argued that RAM percentage in use is irrelevant to performance, unless it gets to a point where it has to Swap/Pagefile in order to function.
Who is correct?
