So I’ve never spilled anything on a device before, so I don’t know if putting a wet device in rice actually works. And are there better thing to do than stick your device in rice?

I’ve never heard of anyone using silica gel.

Silica gel is used in basically everything you want to keep moisture out of. Have you ever had a pack of store-bought beef jerky? It does it’s job.

To be precise, I suggest that you use plain, white rice. It may or may not help, but it won’t make it any worse for wear.

In my experience when I’ve dropped my phone into water I put in rice and after just a few hours it was working pretty well, but I took my phone apart to dry each individual components.
