Does this Job exist?

By xroadtripx ·
I am currently working as a Systems Administrator who has to do some helpdesk- which has gotten very old. I also get to research and test out existing / new technology and implementing it- my favorite part. Is there a job/career out there that would allow me do just the research, testing and implementing of technology? I also like trying to find new tech products out there that maybe lesser known but can meet my company needs. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Yes there is, but you will have to be employed with a company.

That make the product(s) that you want to test out. Another thing is it is a very expensive job. If you want to test everything (nearly) it is going to cost a tidy sum of money. Another way you could do it is to either phone/write or e-mail the company's for their products to test out, just say it is for research.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.

We have had a position to test emerging technologies and see if they are solutions to any of our existing problems or can be used to improve our current processes. This job also involved training users about a new product we adopt. Look for something like "New / Emerging Technology Evaluator".

Product Integrator

by NotSoChiGuy In reply to Does this Job exist?

If you were able to latch on to a sizable technology consulting firm, you could pursue the position of Product Integrator (the title may have changed since my days with such a firm, but the general position is still there).

The only downside (given what you've shared) is that you may start to get silo'd into a specific vendor. For example, you may start of as the network technology integrator, but later get shifted into the Cisco Integration Specialist if you demonstrate particularly strong acumen with that tech.

I also used to work for an advertising firm that had a R&amp department...they were testing Blue Tooth long before it was widely popular (they were actually working on a concept to do something similar to what you see in the movie 'Minority Report'...UGH). So, that may be another avenue for you to pursue.

Best of luck!

I have been looking for the job titles you have given me and can't find anything. I will continue to look but if anyone can help me further I would appreciate it. Thank you for the help you have already given me.
