Last Saturday, I installed a new SBS 2008 server for a client. All went well and next day I was going to add users, join them to the domain, when the director said "oh I installed Antivirus on the server". ok, I said,"which one?" "AVG file server". Thinking, well it can work or hose the system because Exchange and Sharepoint run on SBS, I proceeded to install users and updates to the SBS box. After a reboot, the SBS server simply sat at applying computer settings for about a hour, at which point, I'm thinking, better reinstall. So, tell the director the SBS box is hosed, have to reinstall and it's the AVG antivirus that probably the culprit.
Reinstall SBS. Come in the next day. Director says, I installed the antivirus. I'm thinking, "you not serious, I just had to reinstall from scratch because of it".
Sure enough, if you reboot the server it will sit at applying computer settings and never get past it.
Wipe and reinstall again. Come in today, director says, "I installed the AVG antivirus on the server".
once again, if you reboot the server,it'll hang at applying computer settings and never get past it.
So, I tell the Director, "If you install AVG antivirus on the server again, after the 3rd wipe and reinstall, and it hangs at applying computer settings, your on your own".
Some days, it just doesn't pay to be in IT. While AV is a must, if it breaks the server, one would think one wouldn't do it again, but sheesh.. 3 times....

If you haven't already done it indirectly, it might be time to ask him that question directly. I'm not wanting you to lose clients, but sometimes you've just gotta throw one to the wolves...
But he keeps coming up with 7: That GC IT network admin keeps breaking things as soon as I get the AV installed.
I mean, duuuuhh. :^0
I gotta tells ya, there ain't nuffin like going off on a person who has complete and utter control of you in your job. Very satisfying. It actually got me fired, once. For fifteen minutes.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem.
