domain admin can't access domain server

By BarryVG ·
NT4 server is running Symantec Corporate Antivirus application and used to put the updates onto a mapped drive off a Win2K server. At that time, the Win2K was not a domain controller. Since the change to a BDC, unable to access the system. System says access denied. Properties say user doesn't have appropriate rights access. But same user can access this server from other servers and workstations. Only the NT server is unable to access the mapped drive. Is there something I'm missing. Checked all rights access and nothing has changed. But last two updates from Microsoft the system won't load. No reason given. All this server does is host network printers and antivirus. Appreciate any suggestions.

Check the NTLM authentication level on the server. In addition, domain controllers have a higher level of security that is set by the default domain controller policy. Check this policy to see who can access this computer from the network. Most likely the account does not have permissions.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm looking at NTLM 2 authentication at this point. Still unable to access the BDC from the NT.

checked NTLM authentication on the NT server and it is set for normal starting.
Checked domain controller policy for accessing the 2000 server. User was listed. Added user and attempted access. Did not work. Access is under Active Directory. One thing noted, the NT server is not showing in a view of the domain, however, it found when a search is performed and is listed as part of the domain. Also, logged in user account has permissions to access any server.

Was checking for IP addressing and noted this server has a submask of 255.255.0.0 where the others have 255.255.255.0 Think that might be the issue?

Looking for additional suggestions. PDC is Win2k3; BDC is Win2k0. Domain name is "domainname.local". NT system is showing domain member of "domain". Can this be reason that NT cannot access the BDC? NT can access the PDC. User has all rights and can log onto any system locally and can browse to any system on network. Just not on the NT to the BDC. Have checked policies and none are set to deny. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Have been though the NT setup according to suggestion and am unable to see where the issue would be located. Seems that the NT system is hung out to dry by the Win2k3/2k0 BDC domain controller. Where does one go to make the domain allow an NT to access it. Users and Computers plug in is removed by the domain controller function, so cannot add a specific user to the BDC.
