Domain change

By gijoe.samuel ·
Hi,
Have a network with windows 2000 server as DC.
We r installing a new windows 2000 server as DC with a new name. and want to shift all user profiles from old DC to new DC, without making any changes to user profiles & user mail configuration. We are using POP3 email a/c with microsoft outlook & outlook express as email client.
I would like to know what all are the possible ways of "shifting user profiles & mail configuration from old windows2k server to new windows2k server DC which have a new DC name.
without making any changes to user profiles & user mail configuration."
Regards,
Joe

Hello,
I think you can transfer user profile but you must change domain in user@domain and email adreess.
You can use .csv, .ldif, .txt files to import profiles.
There is a soft that you can help you:
Softerra LDAP Administrator.
And not at the last, use Downloads section to read "Create users in Active Directory from a CSV file with this VBScript"
Good luck,

My mistake ...
I should read more carefully the question.
In this case I use a backup with system state checked. Its some like answer 3.
If you have 2 DC, you can transfer operations master roles and global catalog to second and demote the DC.
P.S.
You want change just DC's name?

No he SAID move profiles to new DC NOT rename the domain (Read the message).

I assume the profiles are for user Roaming profiles. If so, then all you need to do is copy the files as is. Then change the location in AD Users and Computers to new server share. Thats it...
