Domain Controller setup suggestions

By Darkmatter5 ·
I have a router where I have DD-WRT installed DNSMasq is managing DHCP and DNS. I now have a Windows Server 2012 that I want to setup for learning. I want to set it up as a Domain Controller. I've setup DCs before, so I know the process, but I do know that DCs require DNS to be installed. How can I accommodate the DHCP/DNS on the DD-WRT?

Should I move DHCP and DNS to the DC?
Can I just redirect the DC to use DNSMasq?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

I'd move DNS and DHCP to the DC.

Try reposting this in the 'Q&A' forum. The 'Discussion' forum is for matters of general discussion, not specific problems in search of a solution. The 'Water Cooler' is for non-technical discussions. You can submit a question to 'Q&A' here:;content

There are TR members who specifically seek out problems in need of a solution. Although there is some overlap between the forums, you'll find more of those members in 'Q&A' than in 'Discussions' or 'Water Cooler'.

Voting a '+' does not necessarily mean that a given response contained the complete solution to your problem, but that it served to guide you toward it. This is intended to serve as an aid to those who may in the future have a problem similar to yours.
