Background: we had a mixed Novell/NT network. Our NT box (S1) was setup as the PDC. S1 only ran a client server app. We are in the process of removing Novell and installing two new NT boxes (S2 – application/file/print and S3 – Exchange)
Problem 1. S2 is desired to be the PDC. It was setup as a PDC. I can demote S1 to be just a server. In this config, users can log onto S2 and run the app on S1, but can’t map drives on S1. If I reverse the PDC setup, users can log onto S1, run the app and map drives on both S1 and S2. Any suggestions on how to make S2 the PDC and be able to map S1?
Problem 2 Somewhat related to P1, when S3 comes on line, there is an error in the event log saying that there is no PDC. S3 was not setup as a PDC (nor should it be). Also, if S3 tries to connect to S2, it errors out – device not available, net logon services not started on S2. Any thoughts?
