    Domain Login From Another Subnet

    Locked

    by artcabot ·

This may be really obvious for you NT gurus out there, but I’m having trouble getting Win95/98 machines to authenticate to our Windows2000 domain when the machines are in a branch office and, therefore, on a separate subnet. We’re all connected via Frame Relay and Cisco routers. There’s no server at most of the branches, while a couple have NT4 servers (only one is a domain controller for their local office).

    Am I missing something?

You probably need to setup a Wins Server at the branch office or setup a Wins Proxy.

All netbios broadcasts are being stopped at your routers. So names can’t be resolved.

If you cannot afford a wins server at each branch office, you might want to use a lmhosts file (no extention).
look at the lmhosts.sam for a sample.
these are/should be located/created in your windows directory (win95/98)
      Good luck.
      Ron.
