domain name

By apackard ·
I have split off from another firm. I had set up my domain name as .net and theirs is .com. We are in direct competition with each other and he had his domain name first and wants me to change mine so there is no confusion. Can he force me to do this or can I keep my current webpage. His name is not trademarked that I know of

he can try

There is an international review board that considers domain squatting assertions; it got a lot of press back when celebrities and companies like Coca-cola started trying to win back domain names originally registered by speculators.

He could tryto go through that process, but my guess is that it's cumbersome.

I would suggest taht you might want to re-think your domain; why would *you* want people to confuse you with one of your direct competitors? Think of it this way - if people are already dealing with him, they're likely to always go to his .com address. If people are dealing with you, they may slip and type .com and think you just redesigned your web page. Branding is a huge part of marketing, and I think you may not be in agood position.

Good luck.
