Domain name field in Windows 98 SE

By garytn9988 ·
Is there a way to protect the Domain name field for Windows 98 SE clients so that the users are not able to change the Domain name from a default?

Curently I have Windows 98 SE clients logging into a Windows NT 4.0 PDC domain and the users are changing the domain name to a different domain that the workstations do not have access to. Once they change the domain to an invalid domain, that invalid domain stays in the domain field and the users are unable to login causing many trouble calls.Thanks

Gary

first I would say they need to be held responsible. You could use poledit. it is apart of microsoft and you should find it on the windows cd.

I am already using group policies from the Windows NT login to push down each groups policies.

Thanks anyway

Gary,
Edit this file for your domain name place it in your windows/system folder (name it wrkgrp.ini) Go to Client for Microsoft networks service and click on workgroup dialog box. This will lock and hide the domain so your users cannot even see it.

[Options]
Required=true
ForceMapping=true
Mapping=msnp32
Default=Domain name
[Workgroups]
Domain Name=Domain Name

[hides domain at logon-put in windows/system directory]
If you ever need to unhide it go to the file and change the true statements to false
