Domain Names and Intranet Web sites

By Neddly ·
How do you configure a W2K domain with intranet and internet domain names the same. I want to be able to access the external web site and the internal site as well. The problem I see is both domains will have the same name for example "xyz.com".If I set dns1 for the intranet I can add domain accounts from a W2K workstation. If I set dns1 to the internet the internet website come up but I have trouble accest my intranet.
Do I have to use "www.xyz.com:8080" to access the internet site.

I found that local clients could access our intranet with www.mycu.com but clients at remote locations could not. I found that using the IP address of the server solved my problem (http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).

I wanted everyone's home page in IE to be our intranet (mycu.com) so I just use the IP address and it works.

All you have to do is do a hide on the intranet and then put a password on it as well so the public can not view it or stumble on to it. That away it is secure as well as works well. But of course you could make a link on the internet page to the intranet page with a password on it and that would work as well. But, that would be that the public would be able to get to it with just a link.
