Centralized Security

by Churdoo In reply to domain or workgroup

The main purpose of a Domain is centralized security management. If you join him to the domain, then you manage his username/profile in the same place that you manage others, and you can also manage his workstation by having Domain Admin rights to the workstation or via group policy.

It's difficult to say what will be the effect of leaving this user/computer as WORKGROUP since we don't know what this user needs to do. If this user does not need to access any single resource in the Domain (shared files/printers/etc.), then the only effect is that you may need to go to the workstation in order to make any administrative changes to the user or computer in the future.
