I have a fat32 80gb Samsung laptop hdd that I inserted into an external enclosure for use as an external usb hdd. It wasn’t recognized by Windows Xp.So I went into “Disk Managment” & selected “Initialize” & then it detected it & I created the partition & formatted it into NTFS. I then went into “My Computer” & added a few media files to the external hdd. A few hours later I deleted the files & checked “Properties” of the external hdd but the “used space” did not decrease nor did the “free space” increase. I enabled “show hidden files” & checked the contents of the hdd. The files I deleted before were not there. I was curious so I added a few more media files to the drive & then deleted them. I checked “Properties” of the hdd & the “used space” increased & the “free space” was unchanged. So files that I deleted that aren’t on the hdd are being counted as if they are but they’re not because I deleted them & I can’t see them. I tried formatting the hdd but the “used space” was not reduced at all.
Long story short: The external hdd says there is 100% free space but also says I have a bunch of used space as well. How can I fix this problem?
