Dos client for Microsoft NT

By vincentl ·
We have an old computer runnig DOS and we no longer use Novell so we need to be able to login to the NT server. Is there a product out there that will allow us to login to the NT server and retrieve files.

Dos client for Microsoft NT

You don't specify which ver. of NT but here's what I know.

For NT 4.0 there is a client creator program that creates a boot disk for a network card that you specify. This program resides on the server under admin tools. You can then use the netuse commands to connect to the server once the workstation is booted. I've done this and it works. The down side is that it doesn't have a lot of support for PCI network cards that I have found so this may be a problem.

There is a way to createremote client boot disks from Windows 2000 server but it assumes that you are going to use the boot disk for a remote installation. I haven't tried the 2000 program but if you can get it to boot, you can use the net use commands to get in. Sorry, I don't have more specifics. If you're using old hardware and a ISA network card with NT 4.0 I'm 100% sure you can do it. Other configurations will depend on the NIC and system hardware.

Good Luck.

I was able to make disks for all of the NICs that I have and also connected the one dos machine to the necessary share on the NT Server. All is right with the world again.
