dos locking up

MS-Dos locks up when I try to run it. I can boot in dos mode and I can run it in safe mode. I do not have any conflicts in Device Manager and it is not running in Dos Mode under the performance tab. Everything looks good in the .pif file. This occured after running an upgrade from W95 to W98. The pc also locks up if I try to run the W98 setup again.

Do these one at a time. Search your hard drive to make sure you only have one version of Command.com. Rename the Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files. Make sure there is no Load= or Run= satements in Win.ini. Find the Run key in the registry and make sure nothing unusual is being loaded there. Safe mode bypasses these files, so your problem is likely one of them.

Great ideas, but they did not help. Thanks for trying.

Windows in safe mode loads minimum drivers to boot winndows. In normal mode additional drivers cause this problem.
Additional drivers can be loaded from following:
1.Windows startup folder.
2. Windows registry HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\ or runonce or runonceex
3. In win.ini file load= or run= are loading TSR.
4. Autoexec.bat or Config.sys are loading drivers at startup.
Disable these.
Before doing any chages make back up copies of all files.
TO save registry:
Start >> Run >> regedit >> Registry menu >> Export registry >> Select HKLM >> Save as HKLM.reg
YOu can not backup entire registry in oe file. So save in five sections.
HKLM= HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
