Dos LPT1 and LPT2

Shawn, this is a "book answer", not one from experience. Working out of DOS 6 Secrets by Robert Ainsbury, IDG Books, 1993.

Since you can connect to LPT2, I'm pretty sure that the problem isn't a BIOS setting that disables LPT2, or something likethat.

First, check the connection by typing NET USE without any switches, this will give a complete list of the active connections. You should have local names for both LPT1 and LPT2, if I understand your setup correctly. The Remote Name should include a computer AND queue name (see below).

The book says that you can assign different shared printers to different local printer ports and the output will be automatically sent to the network printer. Since it doesn't, perhaps your syntax is off. There is a note that, to access a printer on a computer whose name includes a space, you have to enter the entire device name in quotes.

The basic syntax is
net use lptn \\computer\queue [/p:yes or no]

where n is the local port to be used to direct output to the printer specified in \\computer\queue. The optional /P switch can be used to control whether the connection is permanent. The following command permanently directs all LPT2 output to the shared printer called HPIII on the computer named \\MCCARTP:

net use lpt2: \\mccartp\hpiii /p:yes

for connection to the computer \\BILLS CPU it would be:

net use lpt2: "\\bills cpu\hpiii"

Hope this helps. If not contact me direct and we can dig further.
