Dos Mode Compatability

By taichi ·
Installed a Panasonic FDD to a system. Upon boot, I noticed the drive light did not light up nor was there the typical sound of the drive being queried for a Start up disk. It is the first boot device in BIOS.
Device Manager shows the device is working but is using Dos Mode Compatability. The ribbon cable is brand new as is the tower. There is voltage on the supply plug.
Any suggestions on this problem would be most grateful.

The IDE Controller could be causing the conflict
Click Start-Run,type Regedit in the box, locate
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSetServices\VxD\IOS
locate the value NO IDE,highlight and hit delete
close regedit and reboot

There was no IDE value at all in the Registry. Could this be the problem?

No,this problem is most likely a controller problem that is not loading with 32 bit mode drivers or a virus
