Dot matrix is going to be around as long as there are multi-part forms.
Politically, I would not push LaserJet too hard.
Time will eventually change the situation. They need to think, it was their decision, to switch to laser.

There are only 2 reasons to own a dot matrix printer now days and that is you either have legacy software that wont print in anything but a format like epson psc2, ibm page printer emulation or okidata emulation or you have a multiple part form original like a bill of ladding or invoice. the only other reason would be in a dirty manufacturing evironment they can take some abuse. as far as cost goes you can buy laser printers anywhere from 350.00 to 30000.00 but you can also buy impact or dot matrix printers in that same price range or even more for really fast large line printers mas 90 if it is relitively up to date will print to laserjets just fine though dot matrix are not the cheapest per page.

For fast printing The Laserjet will always come out on top.If price is the issue, you can get some really good colour inkjet printers that are great on print quality, but take a bit longer to print out.As mentioned in the other answers,Dot matrix are best suited for multipart paper. They will be around for a while as stock control uses and financial depts will need them. However,in a office enviroment a laser will not need any acoustic hoods to keep the noise levels down,so that helps pay for itself

Laser printers are better suited to networking, inkjets are not. for office volume printing laser is cheaper & uses standard papers.Use inkjet for Local printing/special forms etc.
