Bill, Excellent Work

by Aaron A Baker In reply to Download: Disable and ena ...

Dear Bill;
Just had a look at your video, it was great.
Not only informative but very Well done.
The trick of course is to know what to turn on/off because if they turn off the wrong thing, i.e. RPC, they will have problems.
I have always hoped that someone "Far more knowledgeable than I" would put out either a video or a Pdf about the services areas from the "Home users" perspective.
I have an XPPro but I am at home, this as you know is not the same as being part of a Network, therefore, by definition, the settings, "Some of services" must be different.
I have viewed your video and loved it, now it's safely tucked away within my TR Folder.
Perhaps you would consider doing a Pdf from Home User Perspective?
That would be fantastic. I love my XPPro, but have a ton of questions. nothing new there. :)
I close in saying
Thank You Bill;
For taking the time and effort of putting this together for us.
It really is appreciated.
Warmest Regards
Aaron

Aaron,

Check out our download: Windows XP services that can be disabled (http://techrepublic.com.com/5138-10877-5747817.html).

This reference sheet lists each Windows XP SP 2 service, describes each service's function, specifies whether you can safely disable the service, and outlines the ramifications of doing so.

From your message, this PDF sounds like what you're looking for.

My disabled XP Home services

by ih82bl84f1 In reply to Download: Disable and ena ...

Good very hello Bill and thank you kindly for your helpful info on disabling XP services.
Just wanted to share with you some screenshots I took of the services I have disabled in my XP Home nLite Edition. My computer is a standalone and so some services are not shown that others might have as the XP is an nLite Edition ommiting many programs such as Outlook, Messenger, Media Player and many others. When I need to do Lan Networking access, I use Remote Administrator so I only have that sevice running when I need it. I am able to accomplish all task needed such as, cd burning, web surfing, downloading and what have you with no retrictions. Hope this can be helpful to others when attemping to disable services.

Question about the video itself

by BaseballAnnie In reply to Download: Disable and ena ...

Whenever I try to make screen capture videos, they never come out as clearly as yours has.

What are you using to make these, and with which codecs/settings?

Thanks in advance,
M.
