Download Failures

By Hayseed14 ·
I am currently unable to download any of your articles, though I have succeeded with many in the past. eg, the recent download for Retro Gamer Hacks - all I get is a blank page with a symbol in the top left corner. I recently installed Microsoft Spyware and Lavasoft Adware, could they be to blame?
Win XP Pro (SP2) with Zone Alarm Pro and McAfee VirusScan Pro

Hello,

If you are not aware, the technical Q&A forum is a peer to peer support forum that is only loosely monitored by the TR staff.

If you wish to contact a TR staffer, follow along through the help link on the bottom of most TR pages.

I just downloaded the file again, and had no problems.

On the page that opens after you click on the download button,

http://techrepublic.com.com/5139-22-5998598.html

Right click on the "here" in If your download does not begin automatically, click here.

I suspect that your problem is not related to the download itself, or your security software, but to a bad patch to Acrobat reader.

I recommend that you uninstall and then reinstall Acrobat Reader.

Thanks - I hadn't thought of that and it did the trick. I'd forgotten that I'd recently upgraded to Acrobat Reader v7.05; uninst & re-installing it solved my problem.
Much appreciated.

As Chas said you need to contact TR direct for any help in this area but I've just downloaded several of the White Papers that you are saying you are unable to download without a problem. If you are just getting a Blank page on the TR site I would be looking at your Settings in IE which I'm presuming you are using as you haven't said anything differently but if you are downloading a file and it's coming out as nothing more than a blank PDF page with a symbol I would be looking at your copy of Adobe Reader as Chas has suggested and reinstalling it.

Currently everything is downloading fine and if you are trying to download a Word Doc with Word 2002 there are some known issues there with MS and how they wrote that particular version of Word.

The Spy Ware programs will not be causing any problem as I'm running the same and more on this particular computer although I do have a different Firewall and AV software they to shouldn't be causing any problems unless you have set them up in such a manner that they will not accept any downloads through the Firewall. But that would require some serious tweaking in Zone Alarm and wouldn't limit the problem to just the TR downloads.
