Every time that I download something from techrepublic, it always downloads in the .zip format. How can I download in another format?

unless there is an option to, then it is not available. You can go to winzip.com and get winzip to open the zip files.

Most of the files for download on TR and many other web sites are .zip files.

This is usually done to make the file smaller, and thus speed up download time and save server space.

There is no option to change the file format.

If your version of Windows is W98 SE with Plus!, or newer, Windows Explorer has built in support for extracting files from zip archives.

Just right click on the file, and select extract.
Or, double click on the file and an extraction explorer window will open.

Many of the downloads at TR are either Word documents, or Excel spread-sheets.
These usually compress quite a bit when zipped.
