Download large files

By nhiep_nguyen ·
Hello everyone,

I got a problem with downloading large files (70MB);
At one site I visit (provider's of one of my apps) there are a full patch of one of my apps with 70 MB and a light one with 36 MB.
I have no problem downloading the light version but whenever I try to download the full version, IE (Firefox too) would download upto the meter showing around 95%-97% of the total then freezes.
I guess it downloads to the temp folder then tries to copy to the designated area and fails during the transfer process.
The download process is stopped but the other opened apps remain operational.
When I try to download from another place with another computer there is no problems.
I've tried to take the firewall off, with/without safe mode to no avails.
Any idea will help.
Thank you.

Is your disk running out of space where you are storing the temporary file while it is assembled?

How much free space is remaining on the drive? Be sure to eliminate 10% of the total disk size from the free space for the well known Microsoft OS freak out if the disk gets below 10% free space of the total disk size.

There is a lot of free space on my drives, 500 MB on C and GB on the other drive on which I tried to save the downloads.

Try deleting all the Temporary Internet Files from the cache of the browse - in Firefox under Options - Privacy - Cache and in IE, under Tools - Internet Options - General - Temporary Internet Files.

You should also check the hard drive for errors, too.

Temporary Internet files are removed from both IE and Firefox prior to tentatives of downloading.

How mutch is your temporary internet file cache size? Maybe this is the problem. Try to set this size bigger.

They were 3 MB but since I read your comment I increase both IE and Firefox to 150 MB. The results are the same.

All three answers help me somehow. My IE Temporary Internet files folder is allocated up to 30 MB and Firefox' 50 MB. I have plenty of disk space, so probably the allocation of Temporary Internet files folder size is a problem.
I'll set a higher value and try again and let you know. Thanks

I'm thinking there's a problem with the 70MB download itself, likely it's incomplete or corrupt from the site your getting it from.

The reason I say this is because your cache size doesn't make any difference with IE or Firefox. I have mine set at 250MB for Firefox & routinely download 800MB to 1.5GB files with it.

Now it's possible your having a memory issue with Firefox but it shouldn't affect IE, that's why I think the problems with the source & has nothing to do with your PC.

No the source is correct since I could download the file from another location with another computer.
The source is Pinnaclesys, and the file is the upgrade file Studio 10_5_full.exe

Now I see the probleme(in your comment)
"There is a lot of free space on my drives, 500 MB on C and GB on the other drive on which I tried to save the downloads."
So 500 Mb to C drive is very low. (I sopouse it's your system partition, and swap partition too) You need more free space on your C Drive!!!
