Why not dB it?

IMHO, this whould be much more functional as an Access dB.

As a Db

by LaurenceAllwork In reply to Why not dB it?

The sheets look OK to me, but yes I use an Access Db to track most of this stuff.

I haven't checked the sheets functionality - one thing I set-up in the Db was an installed date check for licensing and upgrade paths.

BTW - having recently changed companies I am reworking the DB.

why not use a tool

by VinceFuse In reply to DOWNLOAD: Track equipment ...

Nowadays there are great tools available to do this for you. Better, faster and always up to date. They are not always expensive and often offer a wealth of other functionalities.

Definitely Use a Tool

I completely agree. I downloaded these sheets to see what they contained, but was underwhelmed. It is apparent that a lot of work went into them and, per Vince's comment, this data would be out of date very quickly once the equipment hits the floor.

There are some excellent and inexpensive hardware and software asset discovery, audit, and management tools out there. Even for the smaller organization, this is the better way to go.

My theory is these tools give you a springboard to fit YOUR NEEDS. There is no one-size-fits all solution.

If you use this, great, if you incorporate the spirit and idea of the tool into your DB - even better.

Use ezaudit instead

You add a link to this program in your company domain login script on your domain controller and it does a hardware and software scan of each system that logs in.

Its exceptionally helpful. We've been using it for 2 years now:

Many Tools Available...

by Tech Exec In reply to DOWNLOAD: Track equipment ...

I certainly did not intend this to become a commercial for software. But I also have no regrets about members sharing the tools with which they've had success.

There are many good asset management tools available on the market today.

One of the ones I like is NetSource Discovery ( It finds everything on the network and then reports on software installed and usage of that software.

Anyway, as noted, there are lots of choices. I just think that this is more efficient and more accurate than manually inserting and updating entries in spreadsheets.
