downloading a driver

By pardoe6 ·
I needed a cd rom (cheap). I have a 95 windows program. I got a used cdrom - company name is lite-on to try and see if it works-if not, I can return it, but anyway, I guess I need to download a driver for it. So, I went to the lite-on website and proceeded to down load information, but it would almost get done downloading and then say something like illegal parameters or something like that. Anyway, can I download a driver for the lite-on cd rom Model # LTN403 or should I return it and not bother with it. Or should I just go to circuit city and buy one (new) or do you know where I can obtain a good used one????
Thanks, Lois (need to know a.s.a.p.so I can return the used one and get $ back)

Iwould not consider buying a used cd-rom when the price of a new one is aproximately $40,
You may be able to return the drive ,I am not sure about return the policy for used parts in your area
With a new cd-rom you will get a disk with the software with it which is the best option
Check other sites for the driver which you can dowload
1)www.windrivers.com
2)www.drivershq.com
3)www.computerhope.com/help/clite
4)www.cdrom-guide/drivers.htm

There shouldn't be a need to download a driver. 95 should see it just hooked up the way it is. You may need something for a dos boot disk, but there's generic CD-Rom Drivers (like the ones that come with a 98 bootdisk) that'll work with that, so there shouldn't be a need to download something from Lite On's site.

I'm with the ansewr above also. Take it back, go to Circuit City and pick up a new one. A new one shouldn't cost you more then 50 dollars.

Thankyou for your reply. The guy bought it at an auction, and said he would take it back if it didn't work. Now, I am having error in A drive.
Don't know what to do about that.

Thankyou both for your reply.
The reason I do not want to rate your answers, etc., is because I was notified that this is not a secure sight (at least not that part of it). Thanks for your help.

You can buy cheap refurb new and used drives from www.compgeeks.com
I have had good luck with the parts I have purchased from them.

You should only need a driver for a Cd rom drive if you require DOS mode access to the drive.

As to your A drive, check that the cable hasn't come loose at both the drive and motherboard end.

As to the download error, I would start by cleaning up my hard drive.
Remove any file or folder that is more than 1 week old from the Windows\temp folder.
Clean upyour temporary internet files.
For IE, just click on the button to delete temp files in internet options.
For netscape 4.X, empty the cache folder for each user.

Then, if you still have problems, either re-install, or update your web browser.
