Downloading Updates

By camilledjackson ·

My clients are unable to access the local update server (http://servername). We get the ?under construction? message.

We install SUS properly on the server but were unable to download critical updates to the client workstation. We follow the procedures in the ?Deployment White Paper?

? Install SUS
? Able to access the SUSAdmin Configuration page
? Synchronize with
? Pull updates from
? Approve appropriate updates
? Install Sp2 and wuau22.file (Windows Update package)
? Configure registry keys and specific values on client workstations

Ensure IIS is installed!

On DC import admin template and then apply group policy which will automatically update all PCs, without the need for Registery Editing!

You wont even get the under construction message if IIS is installed.

Your client machines do not connect to a web page on that server.

I can only assume that you made the proper registry changes on the clients to:

1.) Point to the SuS server for updates.
2.) Specify how updates will be done(notify, download, Download and install or download and install but do not promt for reboot.
3.) Frequency with which updates will occur.
4.) Use Auto Update Yes/No

Theses settings are stored in:

Check out the following microsoft Tech notes:;en-us;328010

Make sure there are no conflicting registry entries in Current User.
