Symantec Live State

by cfleek In reply to DOWNLOAD:Symantec LiveSta ...

I too have been looking at LiveState. It sounds like a great concept. MY first trial of this product failed horribly. In the first several attempts LiveState ran for about 5 seconds only to error out with a vague error message saying that the volume I was trying to backup contained an OS or active paging file. I was a little miffed by this as I thought that was the whole idea, backup a live system. After trying to contact Symantec (yea right) their policy is not to support trial ware. Bad idea if they want a new customer. I tried googeling the error only to find someone else with the same issue. With no help there I resorted to disabeling the paging file all together as this is a single drive system with a single partition. Hence the need to back it up. After doing that all appeard to be fine but I can't leave the system without a paging file so I'm still unsure. Soon I will be testing the backup.

Livestate - bad luck?

Did you call Symantec support and request access to their FTP site for obtaining the 3.03 (or higher) version of LSR? I found that to help some of the minor issues I was having.

We use it and Like it

I backup 3 servers - One SBS 2003 server with dynamic disks and 2 w2k terminal servers. I found that making a backup of each disk by itself works fine.

I backup to 3 external USB drives and make a tape of that backup every month.

The best part is getting back files for users. That is very fast.
